The Trijicon MRO,, its Miniature Rifle Optic, set a standard for wide field-of-view red-dot rifle optics with exceptional repeatability, durability and clarity when it was introduced in 2015, and it’s no wonder it’s been a top choice of hunters, shooters, law enforcement and military ever since. Now, it’s new and improved.

The new MRO SD sports improved optical performance with a reengineered objective lens and a crisp 2 MOA center dot optimized for use with Trijicon’s 3X MRO Magnifier. Its capless design features sub-flush adjusters to eliminate lost caps and reduce snags. Eight brightness settings include two night vision-compatible levels, five daylight levels and an ultra-bright mode for high-glare environments. Battery life on the red dot unit is two-and-a-half years on the No. 3 setting; on the green dot unit, to be released this summer, battery life is three years on the same setting.

A large aperture and tapered light path eliminate tunnel effect found in magnified optics. The simple red dot optic maximizes a hunter’s viewing area to allow for improved situational awareness and super-fast target engagement. Its ambidextrous brightness controls, sub-flash adjusters, advanced lens coatings and its waterproof, hard-anodized, 7075-T6 aluminum housing make a hunter feel like he’ll never lose sight of any up-close-and-personal scenario.

Infinite eye relief makes the optic ideal for fast-moving action that demands rapid and precise target engagement from any shooting position. Users may choose the option of a single 2 MOA dot in the MRO SD or a 2 MOA dot surrounded by a 68 MOA segmented circle in the MRO HD. If a hunter needs magnification, he should add the Trijicon 3X MRO Magnifier. Mounted along with the new MRO SD, a hunter can have the best of both worlds: use the unit as a stand-alone or, when magnification is needed, flip the magnifier into place for precise shots at distance.

The MRO SD will be offered one of three ways: as stand-alone unit; as a Patrol variant with flip-up caps, an ARD and quick-detach mount; and as a combo with Trijicon’s MRO 3X Magnifier. Color is basic black, but a Coyote Brown Anodized unit is also available. All use the same footprint as the original MRO so they are compatible with all existing MRO mounts and accessories.

Engineered for superior durability, the MRO SD features upgraded adjusters designed to maintain zero under direct impact and heavy recoil. The capless design, utilizing sub-flush adjusters, reduces snags to prevent unintentional adjustments. The Trijicon MRO is designed for easy mounting and rapid zeroing with half-minute adjustments with 70 MOA of total travel. No special tools are needed—just use a cartridge rim to make windage and elevation adjustments. It will withstand extreme temperatures from minus-60 degrees to 160 degrees. It’s fully waterproof to 100 feet, and resistant to chemicals and corrosion. It is built in Trijicon’s factory in Wixom, Mich., alongside some of the most battle tested optics in the world. MSRP is $786.
