Sportsmen ready to explore wildlife and wild places in the Arizona should mark their calendars for March 28 and 29, when the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) Outdoor Expo returns to the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in north Phoenix, Ariz. There is no charge for admission to the event, which began in 2004. It annually attracts more than 30,000 outdoor enthusiasts and those eager to discover the excitement.

“We’re not aware of any other free event that combines conservation, recreation and industry into such a welcoming environment for the public,” said Tom Finley, AZGFD director. “This is where people can find plenty of hands-on activities, see educational exhibits, presentations, test and purchase the latest equipment and products, and connect with social organizations that can provide countless ‘next step’ experiences to support their outdoor passions.”

There’s plenty to do for the entire family, too, including a chance for the kids to get hooked on fishing at the kids’ fishing tank. Those who attend will also have a chance to experience a variety of shooting sports in a safe, supervised, controlled environment on Ben Avery’s world class facility.

More than 120 exhibitors will be on hand, showcasing their wares, services and expertise. Outdoor recreation organizations, conservation groups, government agencies and others will also be on hand to share their expertise on Arizona’s wildlife, fishing, hunting, boating, off-highway vehicles and more. There’s also an opportunity to shop for antlers, hides, skulls and head mounts at the wildlife assets tent and auction. Readers who register early can also enter in a special drawing for equipment from Marsupial Gear, No Excuse Hunting and Outdoors and Umarex USA.

Admission and parking are free. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, March 29. The Outdoor Expo is located on Carefree Highway, about one-half mile west of Interstate 17, in north Phoenix.
