This single-shot hunting handgun has been around a while—since 2008, to be precise. But the gentleman I spoke with at the 2019 SHOT Show Freedom Arms booth told me that the Model 2008 is newly available chambered in the wildly popular 6.5 Creedmoor, and that was all I needed to hear—out came my notebook.

Sporting impregnated wood grips, a 15-inch stainless, matte-finish barrel and chambered in a wide array of calibers from .223 Remington to .45-70 Government, the Model 2008 is suitable for hunting everything from gophers to grizzly bears. Better yet, barrels are interchangeable, so you can hunt both species with the same handgun.

The action is a single-action design with hammer-block safety. No sights are mounted unless you opt for the silhouette model, but the barrel is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Overall length is just under 20 inches, and the handguns weighs a bit over 4 pounds. The forend is available in either short or long versions, and sling swivels are mounted on fore-end and grip butt.

The Model 2008 6.5 Creedmoor has an MSRP of $1,495. For more information, visit freedomarms.com.
