Generally speaking, hunting in Alaska is more expensive than hunting African plains game. But if Bob Robb had to choose one, he’d take Alaska every time. Here's why.

Slip into the Kalahari’s red hills and you’ll meander into kudu, springbok, blesbok, gemsbok, zebra, wildebeest and so much more.

Impala are plentiful and trophy fees are generally inexpensive, making them fun to chase without the economic pressure associated with “greater” game.

With some imagination, flexibility and patience a hunter may be able to save a few bucks when planning an African hunt of a lifetime.

On August 13 I returned from a fabulous 10-day bowhunting trip on the Eastern Cape of South Africa with my friends, owner/PH Andrew Renton and PH Marius Potgieter of Kei River Safaris It was my second time with Kei River. Five years ago it was a plains game hunt extraordinaire. This time it would be the same, but with a bit of a twist. This time, we’d first target Cape buffalo with the bow.

Armed with Kimber rifles, American Hunter Editor-in-Chief Scott Olmsted and his girlfriend journeyed to South Africa for a Plains-game hunt of a lifetime, taking Impala, Kudu, Cape Eland and more.
