Safari Club International files suit against U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Safari Club International is encouraged by a decision by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to revise an April 4 ruling banning importation of African elephant trophies taken in 2014.

HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” aired a report Nov. 24, 2015, that focused on dwindling numbers of the African elephant. The episode focused needed attention on poaching as a primary cause of the animal’s decline, but in doing so also linked regulated hunting with poaching, confusing viewers who otherwise are ignorant of the issues.

The United States Fish and Wildlife Service suspends importation of sport-hunted elephant trophies from two African countries for 2014.

The NRA recently led the charge to defeat New York Senate Bill 4686, an anti-hunting bill backed by animal “rights” groups. The bill would have banned the importation, possession, sale or transportation of the “Big Five African Species” to include hunting trophies.

NRA has hunters’ backs as it monitors the status of recently proposed measures restricting the import, export and interstate sale of ivory.

The U.S. Department of the Interior on June 19 convened in New York City’s Times Square to destroy ivory confiscated in the “war on poaching,” according to a press release from Interior.
