Blaser Group adds to its carbon series with the introduction of the Blaser R8 Ultimate Carbon bolt-action rifle. Designed for maximum performance and minimum weight, the R8 Ultimate Carbon features a 100-percent hand-laid carbon-fiber thumbhole stock, built to withstand the most brutal hunting conditions. Featuring vibration- and recoil-reduction technology, combined with a high torsional strength, the Ultimate Carbon is ideal for mountain hunters and others who value a durable lightweight rifle.

R8 Ultimate Carbon Leather

This version of the modular straight-pull R8 has elastomer grip inserts, while the R8 Ultimate Carbon Leather model features handsome dark-brown weather-proof leather on the grip, fore-end, and cheek piece. Like other R8 rifles, the Ultimate Carbon comes with a Blaser precision trigger and manual cocking system. Optional upgrades include an adjustable comb and a recoil absorption system, or an adjustable recoil pad.

“The ruggedness, accuracy and ergonomics of this newest rifle in our top-performing carbon series make it an ideal choice for tough hunts in mountainous terrain or the backcountry when every ounce counts,” said Jason Evans, CEO, Blaser Group.

The rifle is available in numerous calibers from .22 LR to .500 Jeffery, including 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5 PRC. For more information, visit blaser.de/en/. MSRP: $10,540

Behind the Bullet: The .308 Norma Magnum

Norma’s ballistician Nils Kvale saw the wisdom of having the velocity and horsepower of the .300 H&H Magnum, but in a shorter, more affordable receiver, and used the H&H case to develop his .358 Norma Magnum in 1959 as well as the .308 Norma Magnum one year later. The .308 Norma Magnum closely resembles the wildcat .30-338 cartridge, though the shoulder of the former is located a bit more toward the base than that of the .308 Norma Magnum. Intrigued?
