More whitetail hunters in the Keystone State will get an opportunity to take does, as the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) voted to increase the number of antlerless deer permits available by 34,000 for the 2018-19 season.

That’s good news for hunters in the state ranked No. 1 in hunter density, holding more than 20 hunters per square mile, according to the most recent hunter-density study by the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA).

The PGC’s 2016-17 harvest data show a total of 183,794 antlerless deer were taken by Pennsylvania hunters. Based on the number of permits issued during that time, roughly 25 percent of permit holders were successful in filling their tags.

Consider setting a trap this season for your best opportunity at an ethical, in-your-face shot.
