As you've probably heard, SIG Sauer kind of does a little bit of everything nowadays. Or rather, a lot of everything. In 2014 the company brought its own ammunition to the table, and at SHOT Show 2015 it introduced a line SIG-branded optics and suppressors. SIG hasn't shied away from hunting-specific releases in the past year, but the company didn't, at first blush, have much in the way of hunting ammunition. Until today.

New for 2016 will be SIG's HT 300BLK Elite Performance Hunting Ammunition. The cartridge features a 120gr. all-copper bullet that's designed to deliver deep penetration, consistent 1.8x expansion and maximum terminal ballistic performance. Muzzle velocities are reported to be around 2,250 fps from a 16-inch barrel.

The announcement comes months after SIG rolled out its 300 Blackout Supersonic Elite Performance Match Grade ammunition at the 144th NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits. Now hunters will have an opportunity to get involved with the SIG ammo revolution, and in a caliber that's well-suited to hogs, whitetail and predators alike.

"Given the popularity of the 300BLK, we wanted to offer ammunition truly designed for hunting that expands upon impact,” said Dan Powers, president of the SIG SAUER Ammunition Division. “The 300BLK is our first offering in this new SIG HT hunting line of premium grade rifle ammunition. The SIG HT 300BLK supersonic hunting round is in addition to our Match Grade subsonic and supersonic 300BLK rounds. In the coming months, we will be introducing a 220gr subsonic 300BLK hunting round in addition to new rifle ammunition in a variety of other calibers."

How to Make Woodstove Jerky

Homemade jerky is a staple with a lot of hunters. Deer, antelope, moose and elk all make excellent jerky. Surprisingly, geese do too. In fact, most any game animal will make palatable jerky. Here's how to make it with nothing but a woodstove, a knife and maybe some shears.

Three Whitetail Traps to Set for Close Shots

Your whitetail hunting location may be as expansive as a national forest or as small as an uncle’s 40-acre woodlot. In either scenario, whitetails have a knack for slipping by just out of shooting range. Whether using a firearm or archery equipment, you do have options to lure whitetails closer. Consider setting a trap this season for your best opportunity at an ethical, in-your-face shot.
