Ruger New Model Blackhawk .44 Special

The New Model Blackhawk .44 Special, circa 2010, is a six-shot, single-action revolver in the Flat-top design.

Why I Love the .44 Special

My first centerfire handgun was a Smith & Wesson Model 27 in .357 Mag. The versatility of the cartridge, along with its capability of handling less-expensive .38 Special ammo is what lured me to this revolver.

The Other .44

It's no secret that Dave Campbell has an affinity for the .44 caliber—both Special and Magnum. But there is an even older .44—specifically the .44-40 Winchester Center Fire—has its place in his heart, too.

Behind the Bullet: .44 Remington Magnum

While there are many classic wheelgun calibers that date back to the late 19th century—the .44-40 and .45 Colt foremost among them—the relatively modern .44 Rem. Mag. has a well-deserved place among the most effective developments for a revolver, and will undoubtedly remain there for our lifetime and beyond.

Was the .44 Mag. EVER the “Most Powerful Handgun?"

In the 1971 Clint Eastwood movie “Dirty Harry,” the San Francisco detective spoke one of the most memorable lines in cinematic history.

Hardware: Taurus Raging Hunter

Taurus makes its dedication to the hunting market more obvious than ever with the release of its Raging Hunter. Although “raging” is in its name, this .44 Mag. will make many hunters happy with its features and performance.

Hardware: Colt Anaconda

Colt’s popular “Snake Gun” revolver series gains a new addition with the updated Anaconda, featuring a fully adjustable rear sight, wide hammer spur, open-back rubber Hogue grips, replaceable front sight with orange insert, and a top strap already drilled and tapped for mounting optics.

Handguns For Deer

Are handguns in .357 Mag. powerful enough for deer?

First Look: Ruger's Compact Redhawk .44 Mag.

Not all handgun hunts end with that first, carefully placed shot taken at the end of a silent stalk. This is when you wish you had the new stainless Ruger Redhawk 44 Mag. with a 2.75" barrel carried in an easily accessed belt holster.
