The NRA Mentor Initiative Program has returned for 2017. As part of the program, we are encouraging all 5 million NRA members to mentor a new shooter. Federal Premium Ammunition hosted a gathering of 20 leaders from outdoor mentoring programs from across the country earlier this month, in an effort to bring local and national organizations together to align their work with the National Hunter Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation (R3) plan. The event was organized in conjunction with Pass it On Outdoor Mentors and the Council to Advance Hunting and Shooting Sports.

The NRA Hunters’ Leadership Forum will help FHF, a national R3 organization, develop free, online interactive training mentors may use to recruit, train and retain new hunters.

For new hunters, mentors who have “been there, done that” are invaluable resources. Fortunately, numerous opportunities for beginning hunters to receive expert tutelage exist across the nation as well as online.

We all can count the many blessings afforded by our lifestyle as hunters. Now, before Christmas fades, is the time to recognize that each of us can pass on these gifts to another. This year, give the gift of hunting.
