The U.S. Senate voted 68-32 on Feb. 4 to pass the 2014 Farm Bill, which will decide the fate of nearly $1 trillion and how it will be distributed between agriculture, conservation and food aid programs over the next five years.

Earlier this month, a bipartisan majority in the Michigan House of Representatives passed the citizen-initiated Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, a victory for hunters in the Wolverine State.

The Recovering America's Wildlife Act will provide $1.39 billion for states, territories and tribes to support proactive habitat restoration of species of greatest conservation concern across the U.S.

Some hunters fail to understand that the steel used for most hunting knives sold today is harder, and in some ways better, than their father’s or grandfather’s blades they once saw sharpened with a few clean passes on a stone. Only a skilled hand can put a fine edge on hard, modern blades without a quality sharpening tool to keep the angle correct.

It’s important to let the dogs do their thing, because without them and their zeal, hunters would fare poorly. Upland bird hunters and duck hunters know this. So do coon hunters, which are a breed unto themselves. Anyone can learn this if he or she passes just one night among them, for a coon hunt is always a work in progress.

The Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act has passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 268-154 and is en route to the Senate.

Passing S. 659 out of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on Jan. 20 marked the final step needed to bring the full Bipartisan Sportsmen's Act to the Senate floor for a vote.
