Weatherby's Mark V was never really "broken," but the company decided 2016 was the time to upgrade its signature design, at least a bit.

“Our unrelenting pursuit of excellence led us to the development of the New Mark V,” said Adam Weatherby, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the company that bears his family name. “The rifle features our new LXX Trigger, a highly refined, ergonomically enhanced stock, a hand- lapped barrel, and a Sub-MOA accuracy guarantee. 2016 ushers in the next era in the legendary life of the rifle that changed shooting forever.”

The New Mark V features a redesigned trigger, an updated stock and more. The new Weatherby LXX Trigger is designed to increase performance and shooter accuracy. The trigger’s surfaces are precision ground and polished, and overall tolerances have been refined.

The stocks on the New Mark V rifles will be physically enhanced with a slimmer forearm and sharper, more distinctive lines. The grip diameter will be reduced, a right-hand palm swell will be added and overall weight will be decreased.

After decades of autumns spent in elk country, I have learned a few hard and fast guidelines to heighten my odds of success, even without standing over an elk at the end of the hunt. Elk hunting is changing from season to season. Every lesson you learn from a previous season of hunting has merit in overcoming the low odds already stacked against you.
