For nearly 200 years, the revolver has been the standard sidearm for handgun hunters and for protection during trips into the backcountry—but that may be changing. An increasing number of handgun manufacturers now offer semi-automatic pistols chambered for the 10mm Auto cartridge, which, while not in the same class as the .44 Magnum or .454 Casull, is still no slouch in the power department. One of the latest companies to add a 10mm pistol to its lineup is Springfield Armory. Springfield’s 10mm TRP Operator is a 1911 decked out to handle just about any situation along the trail. It’s not a small pistol, but it is smaller and lighter than many big-bore revolvers carried into the field. Learn more about it in the video embedded above, hosted by Executive Editor Adam Heggenstaller. MSRP: $1,842; springfield-armory.com.
