Glenfield A

Ruger announced the reintroduction of the Glenfield Firearms brand last week. The Glenfield name may be unfamiliar to some younger hunters, but it’s a beloved and trusted one among sportsmen who remember when Sears, JC Penny and Montgomery Ward—during their heyday—offered budget-friendly firearms.

The quality was there. After all, they were manufactured by some of industry’s legends under a different brand name. The difference was the absence of frills and embellishments and that cost savings was passed along to consumers. Marlin made the Glenfields sold by Montgomery Ward.

Ruger acquired the Glenfield label as part of its Marlin asset purchase in 2020. The company has brought the brand back to market with the introduction of the new Glenfield Model A bolt-action rifle. It’s proudly made in the United States and wears a price tag that makes hunting accessible to everyone, whether just starting out or adding to a collection.

Glenfield Rifle

Highly inspired by the nearly two million Ruger American Rifle Gen 1s sold in 14 years, the Model A carries the same practical, no-nonsense spirit. MSRP is roughly $100 below comparable Gen I models, but it does so without abandoning the Gen 1’s most valued elements.

The feature-rich Model A features a textured Moss Green Splatter stock and a matte-black finish on the receiver, threaded barrel and bolt handle. The trigger offers a crisp release with a user-adjustable let-off weight between 3 and 5 pounds. Additionally, the one-piece, three-lug bolt with 70-degree throw provides ample scope clearance. Model A rifles will be available in several classic chamberings, including .308 Win., .30-06 Sprg. and .270 Win.

“We’re excited to bring back the iconic Glenfield Firearms brand with a new product that reflects Ruger’s dedication to manufacturing affordable, American-made firearms for any and every hunter,” said Ruger President and CEO Todd Seyfert. “The Model A is a practical, reliable rifle built for hunters of all experience levels and we're proud to bring it to market under the Glenfield name.”

Marlin launched its Glenfield brand in the mid-1960s. It was offered into the early 1980s and included budget-priced versions of its many of its guns, including lever actions and .22 rimfires.
