Shoot a coot, save a duck? That may be worth considering when waterfowl seasons return here in a few months. In the video embedded above, which was shared by researchers from Delta Waterfowl following a Manitoba canvasback/overwater nesting duck study, coots are captured harassing canvasbacks, destroying nests and attempting to attack ducklings. The footage surprised Delta's researchers, and is worth reviewing.
A reminder: Coots aren't ducks. They're part of the rail family.
