BSA Optics has a new riflescope designed specifically for the .17 Winchester Super Magnum that promises to help varmint hunters with holdover at long range.

Varmint and predator hunting has never been as popular as it is today. From gophers to coyotes, high volume shooting to long range sniping, no one cartridge is best for all.

A .25-caliber PCP rifle, Hatsan’s Galatian III is capable of sending a .25 grain pellet at speeds of up to 1,000 fps. For squirrels, rabbits, and even fox and coyote with the right shot placement, death is imminent.

Most of us who think we are serious shooters have a dirty little secret: We do not shoot enough. The high-velocity, high-energy .17 Winchester Super Magnum rimfire is a welcomed cartridge for many wishing to engage everything from destructive rodents to marauding coyotes, especially in regions where centerfires are noisy, frowned upon or even illegal. But finding a rifle to shoot the world’s fastest rimfire has been a challenge.

The world has been awash in .22 Long Rifle rimfires for decades, but few have been built as solidly as the new CZ 455 Varmint Thumbhole Fluted bolt-action. This “little twenty-two” is hefty, a “real” rifle with real rifle feel and performance to match.

There's no doubt about it, Winchester's Shot-Lok technology has been a full-fledged revolution. Though originally designed with turkeys in mind, the concept has expanded to upland loads and, for 2016, will enter a not-so-feathered market. Coyotes, hogs and varmints the world over will be testing their luck against Varmint X shotshells going forward.
