Truly great hunters aren’t seen on television. Their names don’t often grace shiny pages in print. The truly great ones are scattered along the open swaths of fertile pasture in the heartland, bogged down in the sultry Southeastern swamps and trekking the peaks of mountains in parts unknown. They succeed or fail not by the bag brought home, but the memories gained, the lessons shared and the inevitable feeling of self-accomplishment. Here’s to them. Here’s to you: the true American Hunter.

Anecdotal evidence suggests many hunters and gun owners are receiving Facebook ‘friend’ requests from people they don’t know—folks who aren’t even in their network on the social media forum. Even more onerous is an uptick in the number of hunters recently reported to Facebook for their ‘offensive’ hunting pictures. Is a social media jihad being waged against us on Facebook?

When hunting season opens, so do submissions for “Members’ Best”!

With our annual “Members’ Best” photo contest gearing up, we thought we’d give you a few tips to take your pictures to the next level, perhaps even to the pages of American Hunter magazine next June.

Here’s an idea for a New Year’s resolution: Get your proud mug in the June issue of American Hunter magazine!

Your photos provide not simply a review of your accomplishments and endeavors over the past year, but a revealing snapshot of a nation full of dedicated American Hunters.

It’s nearly Thanksgiving, and some hunting seasons have come and gone. Did you bag a trophy buck? Or maybe you drew a rare tag out West and filled it with a spectacular specimen. If you’ve taken an animal you’re proud of, we want to see it! Be sure to send us a picture and a 200-word description of when, where and how you filled your tag by March 1, and we’ll run the best entries we receive in American Hunter’s June issue.
