The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife has confirmed nine additional wild whitetail deer—five bucks and four does—have tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD).

2017's Worst 3 States for Whitetail

We've already discussed what we feel will be the best states in which to hunt whitetail deer in 2017. But what about the other side of the coin? What about the states you should avoid?

QDMA Summit Launches National Deer Alliance

Where would hunting be without whitetail deer? Hunting in North America has never depended so much on one species to sustain its heritage, participation levels, and the archery and firearm industries.

First Look: 1791 Gunleather Fair Chase Holster

1791 Gunleather's new Smooth Concealment Fair Chase Holster is made from thin, stretchable whitetail deer hide taken by American hunters. Despite its soft nature, made even more comfortable by a suede lining, deer skin remains one of the strongest leathers available, making for a durable holster.

Nebraska Whitetails Rising

Nebraska uses the whitetail deer as a state symbol for good reason, as the author shares just how good trophy deer hunting has become in this Great Plains state.

When Whitetails Attack

Though far from the most aggressive game animal, whitetail deer have occasionally been known to put a hurting on an unsuspecting hunter. Here are a few "Wilder World Outdoors" posts that involve Bambi "striking back," so to speak.

Top 5 Hog Loads

Undoubtedly, North America’s most popular game animal is the whitetail deer, but globally (and running a close second here at home) is the feral hog. Not unlike the whitetail, they are hunted with a wide array of calibers and bullets, and what works for one hunter might not be the choice of the other.

Field Judging Whitetails

Before you pull the trigger or release an arrow, do you know how to field judge a whitetail deer’s antlers? Those who hunt simply to fill the freezer, this is not really an issue. But for those who are hoping to shoot a buck with antlers that meet or exceed a certain numeric score, more often than not, overestimate the size of the antlers, leading to that common malady known as “ground shrinkage.”

Top 5 Whitetail Cartridges

Other than the feral hog, the whitetail deer covers more diverse types of terrain than any other game animal, leading hunters to have a wide variety of favorite cartridges. Additionally, whitetail hunters are perhaps the most fervent defenders and proponents of their chosen cartridges, which can range from the .22 Hornet to the .45-70 Government—not to mention the shotgun crowd. How do you even begin a "Top 5?"

Beat Thermals and Tag More Deer

Thermals aren't as predictable as they may seem. Consider these factors when choosing a stand location for whitetail deer on hillsides and other slopes.
