Despite all of the bright lights and eye-catching new products at every turn on the SHOT Show floor, the Fred Eichler Series varmint rifle from Rock River Arms hooked us and drew us in. New for 2012, this .223-caliber rifle features a 1:8 twist, 16-inch mid-length stainless steel cryogenically treated barrel and a low-profile hidden gas block.

The Ruger Single-Seven (offered exclusively through firearm distributor Lipsey’s) has the same frame size as the older rimfire Single-Six, but it is chambered in .327 Federal Magnum. Except for the sights, all the visible metal is stainless steel. The laminated hardwood grips have an orange tint and a Ruger medallion inset.

Barrett entered the bolt-action hunting rifle business last year, and its initial offering, the Fieldcraft, is an ultra-light rifle developed using Remington’s Model 700 as a starting point.

Ruger has acknowledged the resurgence of the 10 mm Auto cartridge in a variety of platforms and now accommodates in a large-frame double-action revolver synonymous with “thumper” cartridges such as .44 Magnum—the Super Redhawk (SRH). This newest SRH iteration provides a fluted cylinder chambered for 10mm Auto and designed to accomodate full-moon clips.

Since 1979, Sturm, Ruger & Co. has offered a DA/SA (double-action/single-action) large-frame revolver known as the Redhawk. It’s got a pretty dedicated following, we’d say.
