Pete Brownell of Montezuma, Iowa was elected by the National Rifle Association Board of Directors as President May 1, 2017, following the 146th NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Atlanta.

Arizona hunters may no longer be able to take mountain lions or bobcats, as SB 1182, a bill drafted by Arizona State Sen. Steve Farley (D-Tucson), seeks to end the hunting of the big cats. Backed by a fine of no less than $8,000, and potentially much more, the bill, if passed, would make mountain lions and bobcats a “protected” species.

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc., has pledged to donate $2 to the National Rifle Association for each new Ruger firearm sold between the 2015 and 2016 NRA Annual Meetings. The company has its sights set on reaching a goal of $4 million in donations, all of which are to benefit the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA).

Allan D. Cors of Naples, Florida, was elected by the NRA Board of Directors as president of the historic 144-year-old association. The board of directors also re-elected Wayne LaPierre as NRA's executive vice president.

Earlier this month, a bipartisan majority in the Michigan House of Representatives passed the citizen-initiated Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, a victory for hunters in the Wolverine State.
