On this week's #SundayGunday, were taking a look at the Rossi USA LWC, short for Lightweight Carbine. This compact single-shot is a great choice for backpackers, adventurers and younger hunters alike. Its simplistic appearance and break-action nature belies its beefy chamberings. Coming in the shooter’s choice of 300 BLK, 350 Legend, 5.56 NATO, 6.5 Creedmoor, .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum and 8.6 Blackout, this is a carbine capable of packing a punch.

From tip to tail, the Rossi LWC measures a mere 31.5-inches and, thanks to its extensive use of polymer, feels feather light. The fore-end, textured and shaped for a firm grip, is crafted from the material, as is the buttstock and trigger guard. Don’t let the polymer furniture fool you though, the gun’s steel receiver is merely polymer coated, and is capable of bearing the brunt of the gun’s prodigious chamberings. Interestingly enough, the fore-end is what locks the barrel to the receiver once secured in place by the forward sling swivel stud. A knurled knob on this stud allows for fully tool-free assembly and disassembly of the carbine. This design does tease at the potential for a switch barrel, though the LWC is currently only available in single-barrel packages.

Rossi LWC Broken Open

Operating the LWC is simple. Simply push the action release button on the right side of the receiver, easily located in the dark thanks to its texturing, and the chamber opens just enough to reveal the chamber and extractor. From there, load in a cartridge or remove a spent one. Having no ejector keeps the operation incredibly simple, and allows for the policing of brass—exceptionally handy for reloaders and those who like to keep souvenirs of a successful hunt. Despite the gun’s break-action nature, a cross-bolt safety is still included. Above the chamber sits a length of Picatinny rail, for the easy addition of an optic. Finally, the end of its 16.5 inch barrel is threaded to 5/8x24 TPI, for the quick addition of a suppressor.

For more information on the LWC, which retails for $333.99 and weighs right around 5.5 pounds, visit rossiusa.com, and for more #SundayGunday any day of the week, check out our playlist on YouTube, where all previous episodes are archived.
