On this week's #SundayGunday, were checking out a standout exemplar of hunting rifle technology, the Gunwerks Magnus rifle system. Gunwerks has long been synonymous with the pinnacle of firearm precision and technology. Lightweight, reliable and lights-out accurate, the company's rifles can be found everywhere from the deepest reaches of the backcountry, to the competition circuit. Its flagship Magnus Rifle System is no exception.

Its carbon-fiber stock is rigid and comfortable and, if you don’t mind a little extra weight, can even be ordered with an adjustable recoil pad to customize your length of pull. Even better, the gun comes from the factory with whatever base length of pull you select, from 12.25 to 14.5 inches, for a truly custom fit. The stock’s near-vertical grip yields excellent finger position on the trigger, while near its front, a small stretch of Picatinny rail allows for the easy attachment of a bipod. A QD mount on the side of the buttstock pairs with another just behind the Pic rail, for the easy attachment of a sling.

The gun is designed around the hardy GLR action, which can be had in either stainless steel or titanium, and will feed from the shooter’s choice of an internal hinged floorplate magazine or a detachable AICS-style magazine. The action can even be ordered in either right- or left-handed configurations, making this a very attractive platform for our oft-ignored left handers out there. The barrel is lightweight carbon fiber, and can be ordered in 16-, 18-, 20-, 22- or 24-inch lengths, whatever best suits the shooter’s scenario and choice of cartridge. Two lengths of Picatinny rail atop the receiver allow the easy attachment of any optic.

While the metal can be ordered in any of 11 various finishes, and the stock in 16, the customization actually does not stop there. So dedicated are the craftsmen at Gunwerks to the first-shot, long range accuracy potential of their platforms, that they will allow you to order the gun with one of a selection of high-end scopes, and will send it to you with Ballistic turrets pre-set for Gunworks LR ammunition, at the exact altitude and temperature you intend on hunting in. That’s an absolutely unparalleled level of customization. For more information on this precision hunting rifle, which sets the standard for high-end and starts around $6900, visit gunwerks.com.
