Winchester is doubling down on its rimfire line for 2016. Soon to join its ranks is the new M-22 Subsonic .22 LR round, which has been designed specifically to function in automatic firearms.

The M-22 Subsonic features a 45-grain black-plate lead round nose bullet that is designed to have the equivalent energy of full velocity 36-grain rimfire products. That said, it will remain subsonic from both pistol and rifle length barrels. A non-corrosive priming and clean burning powder should also reduce muzzle flash.

“Suppressed firearms are growing in popularity. This is the perfect round for shooters looking to reduce the noise of each shot even more,” said Brett Flaugher, Winchester Ammunition vice president of marketing, sales and strategy.

Like some of the industry's other recent subsonic introduction, M-22 Subsonic was created with suppressed firearms in mind—though Winchester says that won't hurt its performance in unsuppressed rifles or handguns.

M-22 Subsonic will be available in 100-round plastic packs and 800-round bulk packs.
