When SHOT Show 2016 opens on Tuesday, word of countless new product releases will quite literally steal the show. And yes, while the Winchester brand will have no shortage of new surprises for its consumers, the company will also begin what promises to be a year-long celebration.

In case you hadn't heard, the Winchester brand as a whole is celebrating 150 years of history at SHOT Show—and throughout the entirety of 2016, for that matter. And if you're going to celebrate your history, it makes sense to show some of it off.

To celebrate Winchester's 150th anniversary, we've assembled 10 facts about the company's long history that may surprise you.

Just two years ago, Ruger celebrated the 50th Anniversary of its venerable 10/22. One of the industry's most widely respected rimfire rifles, the 10/22 has earned a lasting home in the gun safe of many a hunter and shooter. Its dependability and versatility have endeared it to the American public, and there are few doubts that it'll be around for another five decades, at least.

As we've mentioned a few times before, 2016 marks the 150th Anniversary for the cumulative Winchester brands. As you might expect, commemorative product releases are coming—some have already dropped, like the 150th Anniversary Model 73 we saw at SHOT Show 2016. Next up on the list is Winchester Ammo's recently announced custom-built, collectible cartridge-firearm boards. There will be five in all.
