Two landowners were picking mushrooms about a mile north of Choteau, Mont. in late May when they were charged by an adult female grizzly bear. The men shot and killed the bear at close range, and fortunately, they were uninjured during the encounter.

Wildlife Violations Lead to $900,000 Fine
In early April, a federal judge in Brooklyn sentenced two men for trafficking protected birds and eggs into the United States in violation of the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA). Dr. John Waldrop of Cataula, Ga., was ordered to pay a $900,000 fine—one of the largest-ever for an ESA case—and serve three years of probation. Toney Jones of Eufala, Ala., was sentenced to six months of probation.
Ohio and Arkansas Deer Harvest Up Significantly
Hunters across Ohio checked 238,137 white-tailed deer during the 2024-25 hunting season that concluded in early February, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.
