#SundayGunday: Colt Kodiak

On this week's #SundayGunday, we’re taking a look at the 4.25-inch barreled Colt Kodiak revolver. Chambered in hard-charging .44 Magnum, this surprisingly smooth shooter is the perfect companion for the backcountry hunter in bear country.

So how can a revolver with this hefty a chambering simultaneously be a smooth shooter, aside from only shooting .44 Special? A large part of it comes down to the fact that the gun sports barrel porting designed specifically to combat recoil and muzzle lift, and boy does it work. Also helping mitigate kick is the gun’s full stainless steel construction. Paired with an unfluted cylinder, this gun sports a few extra ounces that really help take the sting off of harder charging magnum loads.

Up top, the Kodiak boasts a vented rib, with a red ramp front sight at its front, paired with an adjustable sight on top of the receiver. The gun boasts DA/SA operation, with a consistent double action stroke perfect for emergency situations, and an incredibly light, crisp single action that excels when more precision is required. The handle is rubberized for grip in any weather and, let’s be honest, a touch more recoil mitigation.

Empty, the gun weighs a touch over three pounds and with a full complement of six .44 Magnums on board, it probably sits close to three and a quarter. If you’re in the market for a revolver that can stand up to rough conditions and can effortlessly deliver rounds on target in a pinch, look no further.
