The Winchester brand has had no shortage of new surprises for its consumers—like the new Varmint X shotshell—but, as SHOT Show 2016 kicks into high gear, the company will also begin a year-long celebration. Oliver F. Winchester introduced his now legendary brand to the world in 1866—and so, in 2016, Winchester celebrates 150 years of success.

Winchester's Model 24 double-barrel shotgun was introduced in 1939, just prior to the U.S. entering World War II, when most minds were not on sporting guns. Only about 116,000 of them were manufactured before it was discontinued from the Winchester catalog in the late 1950s.

What a difference Nelson King's patented loading gate makes. The Henry was cool, but the 1866 was the first of the Winchesters. Although they stopped making the 1866 more than a century ago, Winchester brought them back this year—but others have made them since the 1960s.

Shotgun fans have long been acquainted with Winchester's Super X3, which has served as the company's premier autoloader for what feels like eons now, and it has acquitted itself very well. That said, all eras come to a close eventually. Though the SX3 isn't quite taking a bow just yet, the sun will soon rise for another scattergun bearing the Winchester name—the Super X4.

Winchester Repeating Arms had no shortage of announcements at SHOT Show 2017's Industry Day at the Range. Chief among them? The new XPC, an expansion of the company's popular XPR line of rifles.
