Is the new Blaser F16 the gun that motivates a goodly number of Americans to buy their first pricey European shotgun?

Winchester's Model 24 double-barrel shotgun was introduced in 1939, just prior to the U.S. entering World War II, when most minds were not on sporting guns. Only about 116,000 of them were manufactured before it was discontinued from the Winchester catalog in the late 1950s.

Six years ago Remington released its newest version of the gas-operated, semi-automatic shotgun, the Versa Max. More recently, the company added a turkey-specific variant to the line. Learn more about it with this video.

Yes, Savage Arms is best-known for its rifles. But that doesn't mean shotguns are out of the question. For 2016, the company has rolled out its custom Model 212 and 220 turkey shotguns, which are meant to redefine the look and capability of a turkey gun. Both firearms are available through the company's Special Order Department.

Savage Arms brought out the Model 42, a gun that, like the Model 24, combines the utility of .22 –cal. rifle and .410-bore shotgun, but with a composite stock and fore-end at an economical price. It's safe to say that the Benelli ETHOS was well-received. Heck, we gave it a Golden Bullseye Award for Shotgun of the Year. So it wasn't much of a surprise when Benelli continued to flesh out the ETHOS line last year with the introduction of a 20-gauge variant. For 2016, the company took things a step further and releasing a 28-gauge ETHOS.

Shotgun fans have long been acquainted with Winchester's Super X3, which has served as the company's premier autoloader for what feels like eons now, and it has acquitted itself very well. That said, all eras come to a close eventually. Though the SX3 isn't quite taking a bow just yet, the sun will soon rise for another scattergun bearing the Winchester name—the Super X4.
