I see that my birth state—California—has not relinquished its stranglehold on the notion that the only proper way to manage its wildlife is through emotion. California has become the laughingstock of the nation for its polices, ranging from cultural to fiscal to wildlife management, and continues down that road with absolutely no remorse.
Hunting coyotes is easy. Killing them is not. If you want to move from merely “hunting” them to actually hunting and taking them consistently, you first have to respect them.
California's something of a hotbed for mountain lion sightings. If you recall, a few weeks ago, I shared the video of a cougar taking an early morning stroll through the Hollywood Hills suburbs. Earlier this week, a family a run-in of their own with one of the big cats in nearby Orange County—and the result was substantially scarier.
