The National Rifle Association is pleased to announce a donation of more than $120,000 earlier this month to the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commission thanks to the overwhelming use of NRA’s free Online Hunter Education course by Oklahoma residents in 2021.

Any seasoned hunter could be accused occasionally of trying to out-shout an anti-hunter. But most of us also should follow our own advice: first count to 10. Then, and only then, calmly hit ’em with the facts.

As part of the organization’s 150-year stewardship of shooting and hunting, the NRA in 2016 created the Hunters’ Leadership Forum to push against the demonization of hunting.

In 1949, your NRA developed a program that became the basis for hunter education nationwide. Today, as new modes of communication allow such education to reach even further, your NRA crafted a new hunter education curriculum and offered it to the hunting world free of charge.

Most Americans do not disapprove of hunting. Then again, most Americans don’t really understand much about conservation. As we advocate for hunting’s role on our landscape, it’s important to note arguments that work and don’t work when speaking with nonhunters and anti-hunters.

The NRA Hunters' Leadership Forum (HLF) is pleased to announce a new level of support for Hunters for the Hungry (HFH), including the creation of a $50,000 fund available to affiliates throughout the country.

The National Rifle Association’s Publications Division is pleased to announce Mark. A. Keefe, IV, has been appointed Editorial Director, succeeding John Zent, who held the post from 2004 until April of this year, retiring after nearly four decades as an NRA staff editor. Brian Sheetz will replace Mark Keefe as editor in chief of American Rifleman.

Despite its importance as a good food source, as a wildlife-management tool and as a crucial source of funding for conservation in the United States, hunting remains vulnerable to misinformation and negative attention from ill-informed media, which can encourage support for restrictive legislation. The hunting community must appeal to non-hunters through common goals, motivations and values if our pastime is to remain a fixture in American life.

In 2021, ‘Join the Hunt’ will provide—thanks to the NRA Hunters’ Leadership Forum—research, tips and talking points to teach hunters how to talk about hunting’s positive impact.
