This week on #SundayGunday, were checking out a unique offering from Mossberg—an over/under 28-gauge turkey gun, in the form of the Silver Reserve Eventide Turkey.
Upon first glance, the gun is immediately distinctive. It is far shorter than a traditional over/under, and its full-coverage Mossy Oak Greenleaf camouflage pattern is rarely seen on a double-barrel. As soon as you take it in hand, however, it becomes fully apparent how well-suited the gun is for its intended purpose. Its 14.5-inch length of pull combines extremely well with a pair of 20-inch barrels for an overall length of just 37 ¾ inches. This makes for an extremely well-handling turkey gun whether run-and-gunning over the hills, were every ounce and inch counts, or trying to slowly swing around in a blind with a dozen alert eyes ahead of you. For the former scenario, both buttstock and barrel boast a sling swivel stud for the easy attachment of a sling. The gun's stock and fore-end are synthetic, for more robust resistance to the dings and scrapes that will surely be encountered in the field. A tang-mounted safety and barrel selector rides in a comfortable position for the thumb, while sighting is achieved down a vent rib terminating in a fiber optic front sight post.
Inside, the gun’s break action boasts dual locking lugs, and extractors for the easy removal of spent shells without having to chase them down. The chambers and barrels are chrome lined for corrosion resistance and threaded for extended chokes, of which the gun comes with three: two XX-Full and one Improved Cylinder. This unique platform, along with its easy way of switching between barrels, can allow turkey hunters to set one barrel up with Improved Cylinder for extremely close shots under 20 yards, and the other with XX-Full for farther pokes, making the gun a truly multi-purpose master of all scenarios.
