NRA President Porter Heads for the NRA Show with Fond Memories of His Grand Slam!

NRA President Jim Porter Heads for the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits this week after earning his prestigious turkey grand slam in New Mexico.

Blizzard and buffalo

The life of an NRA president is filled with little downtime. In NRA President Jim Porter’s case, he works more than his fair share of hours as a lawyer then turns around and tends to NRA business. It was great for me to witness him being able enjoy a few days of turkey hunting in between juggling all of his responsibilities.

Porter earned his turkey grand slam just in time to head to the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Indianapolis, April 25-27. As I get set to join him and the rest of the NRA-member family later this week, I want to share a few more pics from April 17 when Porter officially earned grand slam honors, dropping turkey subspecies No. 4—the Merriam’s—at the 923-acre Vermejo Park Ranch in New Mexico. Porter experienced everything from super-warm and sunny weather to blizzard conditions on that trip, making for quite a mix of different photos—especially when one thinks of a spring turkey hunt!

If you’re attending the NRA show and happen to spot Porter in the exhibit hall, be sure to tell him congratulations on his hard-earned slammin’ success!
