2010 Pheasant Hunting Forecast

Pheasants Forever (PF) has published a comprehensive, user-friendly pheasant hunting forecast. It is broken down by state and, frankly, it is really well done.

Despite a harsh winter and wet spring across much of the Midwest, hunters in most states, including North Dakota, South DakotaKansas, Minnesota and Nebraska, can expect to flush about as many birds as in 2009.

PF also points out that Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres are holding steady at around 32 million acres nationwide.

The bad news? Plagued by another snowy winter and the wettest summer in state history, Iowa remains in big trouble. PF reports:

Coming off a record low year of just 74,017 hunters bagging 271,136 roosters, Iowa's statewide August roadside survey count showed a decrease of 30 percent from last year.
