My Favorite Ruger

NRA editors rarely need an excuse to chat about their favorite firearms. So when Ruger announced its Million Gun Challenge earlier in 2011, the buzz around the office turned to not who actually owns a Ruger, but how many and which models. We hope you enjoy this glimpse into their personal collections, and invite you to tell us about your own favorite Ruger.

I have the Ruger American .308 and love it. For a budget rifle it preforms as well as an expensive one.

I have a Model 77 I bought a few years ago when Ruger first started chambering them in .35 Whelen. Tang safety, red recoil pad, beautiful, accurate and powerful.

Ruger Mark II is most favorite for practice but my Ruger Super Redhawk ALASKAN (45 Colt/454 Cassull) is favorite for hiking the back countries in spite of its weight. A truly Awesome Machine! Then there are the Ruger LCP's (380) which are daily carry backups for my Glock.

ALL of my Rugers were my favorites: a Mark I, MarkII,2 Redlabels(12 and 20 G),3 model 1s in various calibers,a model 77, and a LC9 carry gun.Hence my email moniker!

I love #1's. I own a #1 Tropical in .458 Win. Added limb saver recoil pad and long eye relief scope. What a blast to shoot. Hope to add more #1's to my collection.

She shoots LH but the rifle in the photo is RH. I shoot LH and own a LH M77 which I really like. May upgrade to Hawkeye but will always keep the M77.

my favorite is my Ruger Vaquero S/S in .45 colt. it handles 300 grain jacketed bullets @ 1200 fps to 1.5' groups @ 25 yds I haven't hunted with iut as yet, but I bet it will handle javalena famously

I recently bought used Vaquero - polished SS with "ivory" grips. Nice. However, it was stiff and I did not like the hammer spur. After an action job and replacing the hammer with one from a Super BH it is great. All together it cost less than a new one. I understand on Ruger's SASS models the hammer has been changed but the price is steep.

My Super BH in .44mag has a trigger guard that is squared off in the back. It is murder to shoot. After I put on Hogue grips, it was just fine because it kept my index and middle finger from coming up behind the trigger guard. As with lots of Rugers, it is as rugged as they get.

Let's see, Ruger #1 in 25.06, SS 6" barrel GP100, & bull barrel MkII... I like them all, but the #1 is my favorite. Why? Five shot groups @ 100 yards in under an inch!
