Will Denny Austad’s “Spider Bull” break the 500-inch barrier?
This massive bull’s
unique 9x14 headgear has already earned it the nickname “Spider
Bull,” and it may soon gain an additional label: world record.
NRA Member Denny Austad of Ammon, ID, killed the historic bull
on public land in Utah the morning of Sept. 30, 2008. He shot
it with a .300 Austad II, a cartridge he designed, with a 168-grain
Barnes Tipped TSX bullet. Austad was hunting with Doyle Moss,
whose company, MossBack Guides and Outfitters (mossback.com), produces hunting
videos and outfits western hunters. The “Spider Bull” reportedly
gross (green) scores 500 4/8 inches and nets 488, which would
unseat the current Boone and Crockett Club non-typical world
record, a 465 2/8-inch bull found dead in British Columbia in
1994. Official B&C scoring
will take place after the 60-day drying period.

Austad’s trophy sports incredibly long main beams by any standard.
