In 1996 a Washington state voter initiative resulted in a ban on hunting mountain lions with hounds. The vote was strongly influenced by an "animal rights" misinformation campaign, and now a few lawmakers say it's time to restore hunters' rights. A bill sponsored by state Rep. Brian Blake, D-Aberdeen, would establish a permanent cougar season for hound hunters.
It's great to see a hound-hunting ally go on offense. Despite the fact that controlling cougar populations benefits humans and even endangered species, it is among "animal rights" activists favorite activities to attack with their emotion-based propaganda.
