undefinedLeopards aren't the only predators roaming the sun-baked plains and hills of central Namibia. Here at Panorama, we hear black-backed jackals barking and yipping outside our tents nearly every night.

This morning while looking for a good springbok, I caught a jackal running out of a dry creekbed and up a low hill. PH Jamy Traut barked at it and the jackal stopped, and I dumped it with the Kimber Adirondack.

We plan to try calling jackals tonight. Jamy says they are very territorial and will often respond to a challenge call. I hope none of the larger predators in the area come to check us out under the moonless sky.
