In most of the country acorns begin to drop from oaks in early September. To find early season hotspots use a binocular to check oak trees trees right now to find which grove (or tree) has the best crop. Deer will concentrate on acorns and other mast crops as soon as the mast begins to fall in early to mid-September in most of the country. Oaks that are producing a lot of acorns (especially white oaks) will give you a hot early season stand. In fact, acorns are typically the reason why those bucks you've seen in fields in July and August suddenly disappear. Next the bucks will be rubbing their velvet off and will begin to make rubs as they move from bedding to feeding areas—these rubs are another good sign showing where the bucks have gone.
