Farm Bill Offers Numerous Benefits to Wingshooters

You're probably aware that the 2012 Farm Bill includes important upland bird and waterfowl provisions, such as the reauthorization of the Conservation Reserve Program. You may even be familiar with the "Sodsaver" amendment. But have you heard about the Sportsmen's Act of 2012 amendment to the Farm Bill? The 98-page behemoth would improve your access to public lands, streamline the duck stamp system (it's about time) and reauthorize conservation funding. Here's a summary of the provisions important to wingshooters:

Permanent Electronic Duck Stamp Act: Introduced by Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), it would finally make permanent an online system for purchasing duck stamps.

Making Public Lands Public: Jon Tester's (D-MT) provision would ensure proper funding of public lands and public lands acquisitions, improving hunter-access.

North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) reauthorization: If this piece of legislation introduced by James Inhofe (R-OK) isn't approved, an important waterfowl conservation bill could expire in September.

The Farm Bill is scheduled for debate next week. As always, I'll keep you posted.
