According to an Oct. 11, 2010, aerial survey by the Illinois Natural History Survey, duck hunters on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers can officially get pumped. The data is not yet available for public consumption (it will be posted here in the coming days), but Mike Checkett of Ducks Unlimited tells me the data shows that total duck numbers on the Illinois River are twice the 10-year average for this time of year, and pintail numbers far exceed the 10-year average on both the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers.
