Legendary Bulletsmith John A. Nosler Passes Away

.. but his legacy and his bullets will hunt on

The HeadlineIn Memory of John A. Nosler

The Summary: Noted gun writer Dave Workman, the Seattle Gun Rights Examiner, reports that the great bulletsmith, John Amos Nosler, died in his Bend, Ore., home on October 10, 2010. Nosler was 97 years old. He leaves his son, Bob Nosler and his grandson, John R. Nosler to run his beloved bullet and riflemaking business, one that’s been a staple of American hunters since 1948.

Jeff’s Take: John Nosler was the father of the controlled-expansion bullet, a hunter, family man, business man and one of the good guys. After experiencing a bullet failure while hunting moose, he created the venerable Nosler Partition that is still considered the gold standard among premium hunting bullets. Later he created the wildly popular Ballistic Tip and other bullets. He was given NRA Publications’ Pioneer Award for revolutionizing an industry and providing a valuable product to NRA members and hunters and shooters worldwide. Although he is gone, his legacy and will live on, and his bullets will be sent at mach speed at many a game animal. Indeed, this fall I think I’ll stoke my 30-06 with Nosler Partitions and try my best to take a buck. So this bullet’s for you, my friend. I hope you enjoy your everlasting hunting season.

The Legacy: In lieu of sending flowers, the Nosler family encourages a donation to the National Rifle Association Foundation-John A. Nosler Endowment.
