Wildlife Officers Use Facebook to Catch Poachers

Florida Wildlife Officials have started using Facebook as a tool to catch poachers and other outdoorsmen and women who are breaking the law.

Florida Wildlife Officials have started using Facebook as a tool to catch poachers and other outdoorsmen and women who are breaking the law. Operating under the notion that many people use social media as a platform for their bragging, the officials offer cash rewards to online friends who tip them off.

Officials with the Internet Crimes Unit create fake facebook accounts and befriend local fishermen and hunters to keep an eye on outdoor activity.

The Internet Crimes Unit, which was created in 2009, made 177 arrests and doled out 92 warnings in 2010.
