8/19/2011 Thanks to a 9-1 vote by an Administrative Rules Review Committee, Iowa hunters will be allowed to use lead shot in the state's first dove-hunting season in nearly 100 years. The season begins September 1. The ban will be put on hold until it can be taken under consideration by state lawmakers in the 2012 session. Proponents of the ban believe that lead should be prohibited from hunting for the same reason it was removed from toys, paint and gasoline—its toxic threat to humans and wildlife.
