Grizzly Conflicts on the Rise in 2011

A record number of 44 grizzly bears were captured in Montana's Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem in 2011.

A record number of grizzly bears were captured in Montana's Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem in 2011, prompting state wildlife officials to revisit the subject of grizzly bear management.

Conflicts between bears and humans grew steadily this year, keeping grizzly bear managers extremely busy. Spokesman for Region 1 of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, John Farley said in the past 10 days alone, six more bears were removed from the wild.

According to the FWP, recent captures bring the grand total to 44 bears that were trapped in 2011.
