As a part of the new hunting rules approved by the Indiana DNR, Indiana hunters will now be able to hunt deer with crossbows. Other changes include an extension of the archery season, a deer license bundle and a rule called “earn-a-buck” in urban zones.

The new rules stem from pressure on the DNR by lawmakers, landowners and hunters to improve deer management, and to make doing so more affordable for hunters.

The changes will not go into effect until the 2012 hunting season.

To all you winers that think crossbows are cheating, you have never hunted with one. they are loud,5 pounds heavier, and very hard to cock in your stand. so GET OVER IT !!!!! Go hunting with your long bows. We don't mind at all

It's about time Indiana kept up with the other states offering crossbow hunting. People griped about the compound bow back in the 60's and 70's and said they should not be legal too. Thanks Indiana DNR! Maybe some of us older guys can now enjoy deer hunting again since pulling and holding a vertical bow is hard to do anymore.

If you want to use a stringed rifle during a rifle hunt- go for it! It's not archery.

I`m pleased Indiana did the right thing and will allow crossbows for everyone for all archery seasons. Now, if the IDNR would repeal the idiotic OBR, we`d be in business.
