During his usual rounds, an employee at The Dalles dam in Oregon discovered that a large black bear was trapped on a spillway, perched above a 75-foot drop. Officials determined that they could not safely remove the bear and that it had to be euthanized; it was later shot and killed with a rifle by a law enforcement official.
