Remington has announced a new addition to the VERSA MAX line: the VERSA MAX Sportsman.
The VERSA MAX Sportsman comes equipped with all the performance features of the Versa Port operating system, but has a few distinct differences from the original VERSA MAX in order to allow it to enter the market with a lower MSRP.
The Sportsman comes with a standard synthetic stock, with no overmold or comb insert. Additionally, no LOP kit will be included. The barrel is black oxide rather than the original's TriNyte, and the Sportsman includes just one Pro Bore choke tube. It also ships in a standard box, rather than a hardcase.
The gun will maintain the original VERSA MAX's Multi-Port Gas System, Self-Cleaning Pistons and rotating bolt head. With the changes, the VERSA MAX Spotsman is expected to have an MSRP closer to $1,000, down from the original model's $1,399.
Initial VERSA MAX Sportsman offerings include a 28-inch black synthetic version and a 28-inch Mossy Oak Duck Blind® full camo version. In January 2013, three additional 12-gauge models will be introduced—a 26-inch black synthetic offering, a 26-inch Realtree AP fully-camouflaged version and a 22-inch Mossy Oak Obsession turkey version.
