Not Politically Correct: "Coon Hunt Court" Renamed

In what can only be described as a big misunderstanding, a neighborhood planning board in Columbia, Md., has voted to rename a street previously known as Coon Hunt Court. The unanimous decision was spurred by numerous complaints from Coon Hunt Court residents, who called the name "insulting".

Calif. Senate Passes Ban on Hunting with Hounds

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) owes everything, from its occasional victories to its very existence, to lying. Consider the following: It has built up a huge war chest to push anti-hunting legislation and lawsuits by convincing donors it's affiliated with similarly named animal shelters (in reality HSUS donates just 1 percent of its budget to shelters). It led Michigan voters to confuse mourning doves with white doves. It has fought to ban the breeding of hunting dogs by lumping reputable kennels in with puppy mills.

As J.R. Absher of The Outdoor Pressroom put it, Maddie the coonhound has "refined the meaning of 'stay'." Since acquiring Maddie from the Cobb County Animal Shelter in Atlanta, Ga., owner Theron Humphrey has photographed her in a variety of, shall we say, interesting places—inside a tractor tire in Cedar Creek, Texas, atop a traffic light in Austin, Texas, on a bird house in Lawrence, Kan., and even above a basketball rim in Des Moines, Iowa, to name a few.

Three New Hunting Dogs to Compete at Westminster

Three hunting dog breeds recently recognized by the AKC, including the Boykin spaniel, bluetick coonhound and redbone coonhound, will make their Westminster debuts when the annual dog show kicks off Monday.
