The Largest Whitetail on Record?

The video below features a buck named “Free Agent” that is said to be the largest whitetail on record. Battle Ridge Whitetails, a deer breeding operation in McConnellsburg, Pa., is home to this behemoth that is likely worth six figures. While this kind of business has nothing to do with fair chase pursuits, it has found a place in today’s deer hunting world. High-fence game operations are thriving in some areas of the country, and we shouldn’t expect them to go away anytime soon. Regardless of your opinion on the matter, this whitetail is an impressive sight. His seed is being sold to the highest bidder.

Steelers Fans Poach Deer For Super Bowl Feast

As a Baltimore Ravens fan/diehard deer hunter I am naturally opposed to all things related to the Pittsburgh Steelers/poaching. It's rare that I get to report on a story that combines the two things I hate most in this world.

New-Age Inventions We Can Use for Hunting

Last month TIME magazine ranked "The 50 Best Inventions of 2010." After reading their exhaustive list I was inspired to find a way to get these technological marvels into the woods. Yes, I'm a lazy, tech-dependent product of the smart phone generation, but read this list and try to tell me it wouldn't be more fun to go afield with these once unheard of contraptions. But I'm probably just dreaming…

Watching Steven Rinella's "The Wild Within"

I first found out about Steven Rinella when his award-winning book American Buffalo: In Search of a Lost Icon hit the scene in 2008. It was a terrific account of a buffalo hunt in Alaska’s Wrangell Mountains woven together with the history one of America’s most revered beasts. In those days he was just an author, and a fine one at that. Nowadays, they’re calling him a modern day hunter-gather and cable’s mainstream hunting star. His show “The Wild Within” debuted in January and was met with praise from viewers and critics alike.
