2009 First Look

The year’s newest firearms, ammo and optics are here!

The staff of your NRA tapped its vast collection of contacts in the shooting industry to bring the latest firearms, ammunition and optics to your fingertips. Looking for a rifle or shotgun, a new scope, a high-performance cartridge or maybe a high-speed handgun? You’ll find it here. Naturally, we’ll fully evaluate many of these products in “Hardware” in the coming months. But if you want to see them in person, go to Phoenix May 14-17 for the 2009 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits. It’s the year’s biggest celebration of our country’s Second Amendment freedom. We’ll see you there!

ARMALITE'S AR-10(T) is now available in .338 Federal. ArmaLite and Federal Cartridge worked hand-in-hand to ensure the rifle and ammunition are perfectly matched. The one-piece aluminum handguard has multiple mounting points for shooting accessories. Accuracy is enhanced by a triple-lapped 22-inch stainless steel barrel and a two-stage trigger. New chamberings are available for ArmaLite’s M15A4 Carbine, including 7.62x39mm and 6.8 Remington SPC.

BARRETT MFG. has an all-new rifle available and, no, it’s not a .50 BMG. It’s the bolt-action 98 Bravo. Chambered in .338 Lapua Mag., it feeds from a detachable 10-round box magazine and is innovative in its use of polymer for the guide/sleeve and handle.

BENELLI has already improved its new speed racer, the SuperSport, a shotgun designed for sporting clays. The 12-gauge is backbored to .733 inch to reduce backpressure and it’s fitted with Briley’s EX bolt release mechanism and an enlarged bolt handle. Benelli’s Cordoba is available with similar upgrades. Benelliis tight-lipped about a new shotgun it calls the Vinci. We’ll update you when the gun is officially released.

BERETTA introduces sporting versions of its notable SV10 Perennia over/under and UGB25 Xcel break-open, recoil-reducing, semi-auto shotgun. Perhaps its biggest news is the receipt of a $220 million U.S. Army contract to provide up to 450,000 Beretta Model 92FS pistols to U.S. military customers worldwide.

BROWNING has a new 12-gauge, 3-inch and 31/2-inch auto-loading shotgun, the Maxus, which is all about the numbers: 18 percent less felt recoil; 44 percent less muzzle jump; 19 percent faster bolt speed and 24 percent faster lock time. With a synthetic stock and aluminum receiver, the gun weighs less than 7 pounds. Its all-new Power Drive gas system is sealed against the elements and functions reliably with light and heavy loads. And for a limited time, you can purchase one of Browning’s compact shotguns and be eligibile to buy a full-size stock later at 50 percent off. Called the Growth Insurance Program, it applies to the Micro BT-99, Silver Micro Sporting, BPS Micro Trap and Micro Field.

BUSHMASTER offers an intriguing new gas-piston system of operation for the AR-pattern rifle. Available as a complete rifle in its Gas Piston Rifle or as a kit in its Gas Piston Retrofit Conversion Kit, the short-stroke system employs an easily removable hard chrome-plated piston. The rifle is an M4-style carbine with a removable carry handle and flip-up front sight assembly on the gas block.

CROSMAN offers the Marauder pre-charged, pneumatic youth air rifle with an auto-indexing, circular 10-round magazine, hardwood stock and adjustable match-grade trigger.
